POST ACCIDENT CHECKLIST

SECURE THE DRIVER

Confirm and treat injuries, cooperate with authorities, limit casual chatter and media interviews, secure post-accident toxicology/drug screen if required. DO NOT obtain recorded statement. Interview driver for an overview of the accident facts.

SECURE THE EQUIPMENT

Cooperate with authorities, preserve ECM data if possible, get the keys, identify tow truck and storage yard, record tractor and trailer unit numbers, miles, and VIN #.

SECURE THE LOAD

Protect the load, obtain bills of lading, record weights, record type of goods. Determine possibility of salvage.

SECURE THE SCENE

Document damage, landmarks, skid marks, yaw marks, gauge marks, measure and photograph location and vehicles, photograph potential claimants if possible. Obtain recorded statement from people other than your driver. Identify police and medical personnel who responded to scene. Photograph any potential failure of the equipment or vehicles of any participant.

SECURE DOCUMENTS

Maintain driver logs, vehicle inspection reports, history of vehicle repair and maintenance, meal and fuel receipts, bills of lading, downloaded information from Qualcom, ECM or other source including messaging.
